I provide lessons to children from the age of 3 to adult. I mainly teach beginners and intermediate players and enjoy teaching a range of styles including classical, pop and basic improvisation. If you have any particular needs or goals, you are very welcome to contact me to discuss how I can help.
I personalise learning programmes for each individual. For some people this involves traditional music grade exams and for others simply progressing their own musicality and playing for fun! Music examinations are a great tool for motivation and provide a sense of achievement, however I believe there are other aspects of musicianship which need to be approached in different ways. I organise small, low-key concerts for my students to perform, share and celebrate their progress in front of their family and friends. Lessons are on a one-to-one basis and are for 30 minutes at a fixed time slot once per week. I offer a free initial consultation to discuss student goals and knowledge. I can also deliver lessons on Zoom or video exchange if you are unable to come for an in-person lesson. My fees from 2023 are: Payment by monthly standing order: £57 per calendar month Full terms of payment are available here. You can also find me on www.epta-uk.org |
Joanne is an absolutely fantastic teacher! My son loves her lessons and my husband and I fight over who gets to go to the lesson with him because we enjoy them so much! Every lesson is fun, fast paced and the music is brilliantly adapted to keep a young person engaged. We can't recommend her enough, great job Jo!! X |
There is a Chinese Ancient proverb, a teacher can lead you to the door, but you have to walk through it. In Jo's teaching, she will gently push you through the door, cajoling you to walk through. If that doesn't work, she will kick you through that door until you achieve it. Laughing all the time though. A great communicator |
Lessons with Jo are fun! Her knowledge is wide-ranging. We play Beethoven, Bartok or Bach, then next we are improvising Blues interspersed with film and TV themes. She will introduce musical games and analysis of performances via The Internet. However, beware-she will challenge you! Jo is an excellent tutor, her lessons are tailored to suit all ages and ability levels. Each session you will learn something new, it's not all about scales! With Jo's guidance you will be playing simple tunes in a few short weeks. She is able to utilise a wide range of media to help your learning with nothing being too much trouble. I would not hesitate to recommend Jo to others. |
Lessons with Joanne are fab! My daughter really enjoys them as each lesson is always fun as Joanne uses various ways to teach to keep it interesting and fun! My daughter really enjoys going each week and her progress is going really well. Must be the great teacher she has! We asked Joanne to teach our then 3 year old son piano . He is now four and has really enjoyed Joanne's approach to teaching piano using the Wonderkeys program and now My First Piano Adventure. These programs in Joanne's capable hands have helped our child start to gain an understanding of patterns, rhythms, beats, pitch and other basics of music and maths . Joanne has a great style of teaching which encourages participation . She also uses technology to make the lessons fun and engages effectively with our child . We would recommend Joanne wholeheartedly, not least because of the extra effort she puts into her teaching in the form of piano parties and student concerts. Jo is a fantastic piano teacher and my daughter Jessica loves attending her lessons. So much so my husband has started to learn to play the piano too with Jo. Engaging teacher suitable for children and adults. |
